Hi All, first post here..

Thinking of getting the HTPC off the ground but I have to satisfy myself with a few things Can you help?

1. I have an mx 500 remote and would like to program all pc input from it. Is this possible?

2. I need a Remote IR receiver for the pc. Can I get any one?
2a. Do they only come with the remote?
2b. Do I just ditch the remote if the answer to 2a is yes.
2c. Can I get one that connects to either the IR header on my motherboard, the usb header on my motherboard, or must it be from a usb slot?
2d. Do the IR receivers fit in a case slot or are they totally external?
2e. Where do I buy one?

3. Hip and girder seem to be the products that are best to use. But what is it about needing a driver for a specific remote? I thought an ir beam was an ir beam..

I have been looking for this info in many places but have yet to find a definitive answer to these questions, hence the post.

Any help would be greatly received..

Cheers, and merry xmas

A very good choice - you will not be disappointed.

I do not know where you are based, but there is a roundup of commonly available PC/IR devices here http://forums.dvbowners.com/index.php?showtopic=4953.

Because this device is a truly universal remote, you should be able to use any IR receiver designed for the purpose either by teaching it commands from the remote (if one was supplied), or by selecting a set of pre-defined IR codes that do not conflict with your other equipment. Either way, both Hip and Girder convert the IR codes received through the receiver into a unique value that you can assign to an action (but you need an IR receiver that works with these programs).
