I have a DNTV TinyUSB 2 DVB-T receiver which is playing SD beautifully. I am having problems with video slow down (dropped frames) when viewing HDTV (particularly 1080i). Strangely the CPU is not at 100% utilisation (task manager reports 80-90%) when frames are being dropped... My system is:

Athlon 1800XP
1 GB RAM
Geforce4Ti 4600

I have recently found out that the 4600 doesn't support any video playback acceleration however newer cards such as the 6600GT may have good hardware acceleration. Would spending $200 on a 6600GT solve my HDTV playback woes for my system? Anyone else with a similar setup to mine getting silky smooth HDTV playback?

Would a suitable card be a 9250SE 128MB ($49) or a 9550SE 256MB ($89)? Do you know if either of these cards can atleast match my Ti4600 in 3D performance?

I have no idea about games stuff, but as far as video acceleration is concerned both of them support it.

Card: DNTV Live! DVB-T

The 9550 SE will be about the same performance as your Geforce 4... a 6600GT would smash it... mostly. Probably the next best card would be a 9800/Pro/XT (under $200 these days) or Radeon X1600XT, once the AGP version comes out.
