Many thanks foir the indepth feedback DrP.

The laptop is an Alienware M18x R2 so the HDMI IN is not a capture card just used to stream video from third party devices such as XBox, PS4 on to the laptops screen. Apparently gamers use it to capture parts of games ( I can only assume using screen capture programs).

Basically that is what i want to do, connect my AppleTV and capture video and sound on my laptop.

I doubt HDCP will be an issue but it might.

Any suggestions on a reliable screen capture program? VLC is the only one I can find that might work. Still have to try it first.

cheers

I have DNTV Scheduler Pro setup and working perfectly but I recently got an Apple TV that plugs into the HDMI IN port on my computer. Is there any way to record the output from the Apple TV using DNTV Scheduler Pro?

The problem is the second last line you posted. No supported DTV cards found. You need a DigitalNow card/USB tuner on your system before the Vista View will work.

No way around that unfortunately.

Do you have an old working DN card (Quad, hybrid, 7164 or TinyTwin, Dabby)? Just install it with drivers. Even if you don't use it, as long as it is there should do the trick and get the Vista View working

As long as you have at beast one DNTV device in your computer then any DVB device will work with DNTV Scheduler Pro. If that DNTV device isn't a TinyTwin you also need to install DNTVLive with the necessary serial number.

The Windows 7 drivers should work OK. I've used, and still am using, the 2004 (ie XP era!) drivers for the tinyusb (twinhan beetle) on Windows 10 with a fair degree of success. The driver does occasionally puke when coming out of hibernate if the tuners have had power removed from them, possibly it doesn't properly account for having to do a full cold restart of the device.

thanks Doc. might give it a try

Have taken the plunge and YES .... the Twinstar works fine. Not only that, it can handle the new Ch9 HD .264

Where did you get the drivers from? I have an old Twinstar here I would like to try with Win 8.1 but can't find any drivers.

This might be a wild shot but have you tried the DNTV Quad Remote Bridge program (http://www.digitalnow.com.au/DNTV/DNTVRemoteBridge.zip) It is specifically for problem motherboards. Best thing is installing it can't hurt. If it doesn't help just uninstall it.

Maybe a U4 Quad will do it all. There's a thread on Austech about it.

Not sure it works with windows.

At the moment I use my PC with a quad tuner or tinytwin and DNTV Scheduler for all my recording, a Telstra T-Box connected to our main TV to watch live TV with timeshifting as well as to connect to our home LAN to play media files from my computer.

My problem is that we now want to subscribe to one of the online streaming outfits (netflix, Stan) but still maintain the functionality we now enjoy with the T-Box. I can't seem to find any device that supports online streaming of netflix, Stan, Presto and YouTube as well as broadcast live FTA TV, timeshift as well as record, and connect to our LAN to play networked media files.

Does any such device exist. The T-Box used to until telstra hobbled it, neither Telstra TV nor Apple TV do all I want it to.

Any suggestions please?

So, no-one has a quad on windows 10 :-(

Not that I know of but that's not to say there isn't some. People usually only post here when they have problems not when things bare working right unfortunately.

All I can suggest is to try and see. There are numerous combinations you can try.

Personally I'm hoping I never have to go to windows 10.

Oh, can that be done ? I must google it.

Just right click the drivers setup.exe and click Properties then select the Compatibility tab and select the desired windows version then tick. Click Apply. Then right click the drivers setup.exe again and this time select Run as the Administrator. Do the same for the software (DNTV LIVE which includes DNTV Scheduler Pro).

Best not to have to resort to compatibility mode but sometimes you have to just to get it working.

The biggest problem you have with the new computers is that they nearly all come with USB 3.0 and the TinyTwin work best on USB 2.0. Fortunately the Quad tuner is PCIe so it has a better chance of working under windows 10 x64.

It could be a little time consuming but it should be able to be made to work even if you have to install the drivers and programs in matching compatibility mode (windows 7 or 8).

A couple of basic hardware tips.

Ensure that every 6 months you remove the TV Tuner card and using a clean rubber eraser (yep the same as we used bat school years ago to rub out pencil mistakes in our exercise books) and rub the golden teeth on both sides where the card plugs into the motherboard. Be sure you do NOT touch those teeth with your fingers. Use a lint free clean cloth or compressed air to remove the rubber. Reinsert the TV tuner so it is a tight fit and secure.

Check all aerial cables are tight fitting.

If still experiencing signal quality problems then you might want to look at investing in a powered antenna splitter like a kingray.

cheers

Do the drivers come in an .exe or .zip file?

If a .exe then make sure when installing them you right click on the .exe file and click on "Run as Administrator".

If a .zip, login to windows as an administrator, extract the files from the .zip. Go into device manager and find the entry with the yellow exclamation mark and right click it. Click on properties and select install a new driver or update the driver. Navigate to the driver you extracted from the zip file and select it. Click ok.

Hopefully one of those methods will work.

The other possibility is that windows 7 x64 has driver certification (I think it's called but not sure). You may need to disable it

When you say you had to re-install, do you mean Windows 7 or the Vista View Saber?

Fixed. Many thanks bear. A complete clean install of DNTV Scheduler Pro with no traces or files of the old install, did the trick.

Ever since the new 9Life channel started I haven't been able to record it in DNTV Scheduler Pro. When I scan the channels 9Life appears on the channel list with all the correct details but in Channel Mapping there is no 9Life to map it to for EPG data.

Anyone else have this problem with 9Life.

I'm in Brisbane.

System is windows 8.0 x64.

Any suggestions?

BTW the channel seems to record fine and EPG works perfectly in DNTV LIVE.

That is correct Therat. I'm not sure if it is possible to install only the DNTV Live section of the file but I installed it all then uninstalled Scheduler with Revo Uninstaller rebooted and then installed Scheduler from the stand alone file.

Thank you again for your input.

Peter

you can select what you want to install (other than DNTV LIVE) but other than DNTV Scheduler Pro it is safest to install all the filters. DNTV Scheduler Pro can be safely unselected when installing the whole package. It can then be installed later and will automatically detect the existing filters.

Very hard to remember exactly as not only am I in my 70's but the software installation is neither intuitive or simple but here goes: I downloaded and installed the latest Java 32 & 64 bit and re-booted, I disabled Antivirus and Firewall first but I am advised that this is unnecessary. I then installed the drivers DNTV Dual Hybrid 7164 PCIe as administrator. I then installed DNTV Live 1.6.1.4 as administrator but I didn't let it install Scheduler Pro and rebooted , it all worked perfectly. I then installed the stand alone DNTV Scheduler Pro 2.120 as administrator, some of the sequences of configuration appeared to be out of order but I followed the book and it all came together. No Windows 10 64bit revelations here but it worked for me.

Peter

Many thanks for that Peter. Am I right in saying that basically the only thing you did differently the last time was not to install DNTV Scheduler Pro as part of the DNTV LIVE package but install it last as a standalone?

BTW I've rethought the AV and firewall situation. Disabling them is easiest during installation but sometimes might cause problems when you enable them. Having said that, most good AV and firewall programs notify you when certain programs are trying to access the internet or LAN. All DNTV programs must be given permission. Simplest way is to put a rule in both the firewall and AV to totally ignore all the DNTV folders in Program Files (x86).

cheers

Thank you all for your help, I now have it running correctly, don't ask me how I did it, just a lot of experimenting. I'm pleased as I was researching the Hauppauge range, they appear to be the only brand that advertises as Win 10 compatible.

Peter

that's great news. If you could document exactly what you did it would be very helpful for other win 10 users.

Unfortunately I've never used windows 10 (and don't intend to) so no idea if it works or not. I use windows 8 and everything works perfectly. Maybe bear could help on that one.

A full setup guide is available on the digitalnow website http://www.digitalnow.com.au/DNTV/SETTING%...DULER%20PRO.zip

One thing I could suggest is to download the latest DNTV Scheduler Pro standalone and see if that helps. If not then maybe try installing it in compatibility mode.
