BDA WEBSCHEDULER for Dummies.
The following is a quick outline as to what is expected for installing or upgrading to BDA Webscheduler. Please feel free to post comments for the benifit of improving this post. NOTE: The Spectrum BDA drivers only support the VisionPlus DVB-T PCI cards. Please read the following prior to updating or installing BDA WS, or you can go direct to the official WS Home page at the following url. http://dvb-ws.sourceforge.net/ To begin with install DirectX9b or DirectX9c if not already installed. (Gets the latest Direct Show Filters etc.) BDA DRIVERS: Go to the following temporary Spectrum BDA site. http://nate.dynalias.net/DigitalWatch/file...0BDA%20Drivers/ Read the instructions on this page carefully. You will be asked to download the following zips. Drivers 1.5.3.3 bdatest.zip tunningspace.zip Follow the instructions on the temporary Spectrum website page. Post Note: The latest Spectrum BDA drivers ver 1.6 have now been released and are under test. You can read about them here: http://forums.dvbowners.com/index.php?showtopic=2265&st=0 Hint: The BDA drivers are not ms signed so windows "hardware update" will always choose the ms signed Twinhan drivers first. Just right click on the DTV Drivers in device manager and "update driver", use the "install from specific location" then "Don't search choose specific location" then "have disk" and browse to the THBDA inf files, do the capture driver first then the tuner. These drivers are not ms signed so just continue. Remember to Reboot the PC after loading the BDA Drivers and check with the device manager that your drivers are installed and the version is correct. At this stage you should be able to have Graphedit creating a graph with working filters. Do not proceed until you have it running. If you want you can roll back to the previous Twinhan drivers by scanning for new hardware or uninstall the BDA drivers manually. (Windows should reload the MS Signed Twinhan Drivers.) Any Problems just post to this forum or PM Spectrum. WEBSCHEDULER: Download the Java Runtime Environment and the latest WebschedulerX.X.X.x-BDA.zip from the following site. http://dvb-ws.sourceforge.net/documentation.php If your upgrading WS from the Twinhan version stop the wrapper service if in use, by using windows service manager, then rename the Webscheduler directory in case you want to roll it back. Unzip WebschedulerX.X.X.x-BDA.zip to your working location. eg "C\Program Files\Webscheduler" In the "Webscheduler\filter" subdirectory you will need to register the dump & flow filters. See "Webscheduler\filter\Readme.txt" In the "Webscheduler" directory follow the other "Readme.txt" instructions. Remember not to run it as a service until you have it recording ok. Once you get it started and can see the Webscheduler home page: Remember to: Set up which cards you want to use. (System Setup > Card Setup) Edit the capture path. (System Setup > Server Config > path.capture) Set the capture Type. (System Setup > Server Config > Capture.deftype) Run the channel scan. If all is well then Setup a Full or TS capture and test the captured file with a TS player. See "Helpful Hints" listed below. Any Problems just post to this forum or see Null_Pointer. Helpful Hints. What the Webscheduler capture types mean: TS mux(0) : a basic Transport stream with just the packets from the video and audio streams you are interested in. Full TS(1) : the full transport stream (all pids that are transmitted, just dumps the received stream to disk) CL Mux(2) & SS Mux(3) : muxes the video and audio into a mpg2 file using a 3rd party muxer. Separate Files(4) & TS Mux + TF Full(5) : these are for testing and you probably should not use them. To set the default capture type look in the server settings. If you want to know more about capture types, see this thread. http://forums.dvbowners.com/index.php?showtopic=1512 |

Once you switch to BDA once it is very easy to switch between the two driver sets.
I'm on Windows XP. To go from BDA to Twinhan: Open Device Manager Right Click First BDA driver and say uninstall Right Click Second BDA driver and say uninstall (Instead of uninstalling im sure you can just go update and find the old files) The Simply do the "Scan for hardware changes" from the Action menu. With my computer it auto finds the old Twinhan and you are done. To go back to BDA from Twinhan: Open Device Manager Right click Twinhan Driver Video and click update Do the update bit so it asks for a location and driver, the select correct BDA driver Do the same for Twinhan Audio Driver Done But it is very easy because after you do it once, all the filters are all installed, and it is simply the change over of drivers. - James |

An even easier method, just "update" the drivers and point to the appropriate files.
To be safe reboot after upgrading the drivers. You don't necessarily get prompted and I've been caught out a couple of times now, sometimes you seem to get away with it and other times not ~ |

It's great that you are hosting the site here
I have rebuilt my system and am having difficulty getting the BDA drivers to work again so I was looking for information on how I can diagnose what is going wrong. Am I looking in the right place? Can someone send me this file? thanks, Paul -------------------- |

Aha! I have solved my problem!
Where before I was getting -789 errors in the display log of webscheduler; Everything was resolved after installing DirectX9. Is this actually a requirement. If so, I would beg that it be included into this document. I am certainly putting it in my personl HTPC build notes! Paul -------------------- |

paul_ahb,
Thanks for the tip, It is already mentioned in the above outline as a suggestion, I guess I can highlight it to make it more noticable. I just assumed that we would be up there with the directX versions. |

Paul_ahb is right about the bdatesting link, it's dead. This was confusing me at first, but of course, downloading this is not necessary.
I've made a batch file which contains all the specific filters that I've registered for getting the bda drivers to work, you're paths will be different, but, want me to post it? Or, would it just be more confusing? People complaining that they dont have that filter or in that place etc? |

stupidname#345,
QUOTE Paul_ahb is right about the bdatesting link, it's dead. This was confusing me at first, but of course, downloading this is not necessary. Yes its been dead for some time. I wasn't keen to change it until the Spectrum site was back up and running. I guess we are now waiting for telstra to connect Spectrum at his new home. Besides darro has posted a link for these drivers in this thread anyway.QUOTE I've made a batch file which contains all the specific filters that I've registered for getting the bda drivers to work, you're paths will be different, but, want me to post it?
