Hey guys, it seems channel 31 (community tv) have started broadcasting in digital (Melbourne and Brisbane at least so far). Wondering if there's any plans to include their guide data any time soon?

More info:

Cheers.

uryan, just an fyi, ONE (QLD) is MIA again. No ONE data is in your .xml file after Sat 10 July. There is data in the OzTIVO xml files.

Also, ABC-HD is now kaput (seems to be going 'dark' randomly across Oz, Nothing in Brisbane since the 8th). It's been replaced by ABC News 24 (which is currently broadcasting a test pattern). No OzTIVO data files yet.

The Sydney guide seems to have issues (The file exists and extracts but my guide is still one week old). Any one know what's happening?

Same for the South Coast - don't know what's happening.

Maybe its time to set up EPG Scan.

Both hosts seem to have data for all regions that are a week old. It would be great if this could be fixed.

thanks,
Paul

Same issue here in Adelaide. Guide not updated since 24 July. Don't get me wrong..................it's not a whinge! I'm very grateful to have received this free service, but if something's gone permanently pear-shaped with the OZTIVO guide what's the alternative for 'clueless but willing to pay' sods like myself? Something straightforward to load into TV Scheduler.

IceTV is the only paid alternative I'm aware of - http://www.icetv.com.au/ - they do half price sales every so often, so if you aren't in a hurry it's probably worth waiting. They also do a free trial if you want to see what it's like.

For some reason the scheduled task hadn't run since the 26th. I ran it manually and it worked fine, so I will have to keep an eye on it for a while.

John G, the 'clueless but willing to pay' alternative is icetv. From what I have heard they are quite good, but $99/yr is fairly steep imo.

I personally no longer use the oztivo guides, but I keep them running to help people who can't afford/are unwilling to pay and don't have the technical expertise to fetch their own guide. Generally they are very low maintenance and I usually forget they are running until something goes wrong.

BTW, I do plan on adding ABC News24 sometime.

Well....

You could try DVB Guide to roll your own guides. It's easy to setup, just runs as a simple batch file and it grabs the EPG as broadcast by the TV stations themselves, using your DVB-T card, so it's as accurate as that. You can run it on a schedule as often as you like (I do it once a day), if you're worried about changes.

It generates one xmltv file per channel. If you need to merge them into one xmltv file (you don't for WS & DVS), you can use xmltvedt. If you use DV Scheduler, look in the folder \DV Scheduler\data\xmltv and you'll find a program called DVSDVBGuideBatch.exe that will generate the batch file for you.

Best of all, it's free. smile.gif

Thanks for the fix uryan. It is very convenient, even for me who used to write scrapers, I still like this service that you have produced.

Are you accepting donations for past service? I forget how valuable things are until they aren't available.

Paul

Yes, thanks so much for the continual support of this guide.

BTW, will there be any CH31 data available in the near future (or is it already there?).

Cheers.

Cheers uryan, all is well with the Adelaide guide now. Thanks also to the others for their suggestions. Yes, at nearly $100 ICE TV is a bit on the steep side for my needs. Logically, the TV channels would be falling over themselves to GIVE this data away, instead of trying their best to restrict it. They're probably under pressure from the mainstream media (read NewsCorp) not to do so. I mean, it just wouldn't do to launch initiatives which have the potential to reduce newspaper sales, would it?

It's actually mostly about stopping people recording DTV and then either skipping ads or passing the those files around. Two of the commercial channels have already attempted to stop EPG data being publicly compiled and listed in the past. 7 habitually continue to provide inaccurate EPG data, some suspect this isn't by accident.

In a nutshell, it's the whole VCR thing all over again. They forget that this time around, if they piss their audience off enough, they'll simply buy the DVDs, or, worse yet. download the media. They also forget that running shows late (or not at all in some cases) isn't something even the most ardent fan will tolerate indefinitely.

Bazza, Would you upload (or add to your ~bazza/pub/ directory) the batch file and parameter file that you built for DVB Guide - I suspect then that it would be a simple matter of editing the local channel frequencies to get it working.

May I ask those with experience on (what I see) as the vagaries of Channel Mapping?
With so many changes in the channels since I first set Scheduler up, I thought it might be a good idea to 'update'. So I re-scanned the available channels via Scheduler. Then I set about mapping the freshly scanned channels.
My issue is Scheduler picked up 5 Seven channels, but the mapping dropdown menu only gave me 'SevenSA' to map to, which I did. Not surprisingly, when I reloaded the Oztivo data all 5 channels showed the same programs! I'm using Channel 7 as an example, but it had the same effect on others too.
What's the trick that I'm missing here? (Probably staring me in the face, I'll concede!)

I don't have any helpful info but came here to post the same problem. No 7Two data for Melbourne since about mid last week.
