Hi Guys,
We have a couple of reports from Linux users about having the Quad DVB-T tuner card working under Linux. So, if any one who has got the card and wants to try under Linux, please let us know how it goes. Watchout applying automatic updates to linux. Until Digital Now's device IDs for the Quad appear in the mainstream performing an update may well result in the standard RTL driver modules being installed, effectively disabling the Quad again. An alternative would be to re-write the Quad's device IDs with the standard RTL ones. Doing that has implications for Digital Now software that automagically detects DN receivers for licencing purposes under Windows.

I have just had a go compiling the driver on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick, AMD64, 2.6.35 kernel and the latest v4l-dvb source. Needed a bit of hacking to insert new driver into the v4l-dvb makefiles but all seemed to compile and install just fine.
The kernel messages show the 4 dvb-usb devices being discovered and configured with the RTL2832U driver. [ 17.712466] dvb-usb: found a 'RTL2832U DVB-T USB DEVICE' in warm state. [ 17.712472] dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer. [ 17.714095] DVB: registering new adapter (RTL2832U DVB-T USB DEVICE) [ 17.714503] DVB: registering adapter 0 frontend 0 (Realtek RTL2832 DVB-T RTL2836 DTMB)... 4 new /dev/dvb adaptors appeared. MythTV setup found and added the 4 DVB-T adaptors. This is too easy I thought. Unfortunately that is as far as I got. When I then tried to record a channel using the card the MythTV server froze. It did not respond to any input except a network ping. Even a remote SSH connection just hung. I needed to do a hard reset to recover from the freeze. There was no diagnostic info in the logs. |

I too found that when built against 64 bit linux it hangs as soon as you try to access it.

I looked for a more recent version of the driver without success. Does anyone know where the driver source code is maintained?

I switched my Ubuntu system to 32 bit and recompiled the Realtek driver. This time it worked fine. I am able to record 4 channels simultaneously in MythTV on Ubuntu 10.10 (5 when I added my old DVICO PCI card). Very nice. Quality seemed fine during my limited testing.

One of our customers has modified the code and has written a short guide that should assist those interested in getting the Quad to work under Linux. I have not tried this and unlikely to do so for several weeks, but if anyone wants to try, you can download what you need from here Please share your experiences and provide feedback if you wish. G'day Linux people,
In case it helps, here's a quick note to Linux users with Gigabyte motherboards. If you have a Quad and a Gigabyte motherboard and are experiencing the glitching issues resulting from the BIOS problem, try disabling the first adapter (e.g. adapter0 in the MythTV backend setup). I found on my system that if I only use adapters 1-3 the glitching almost completely disappears (even with all three tuners in use), which is at least an acceptable workaround until Gigabyte gets their stuff together and releases an updated BIOS. Hope that helps someone. |

All I have heard is a confirmation email from Renura Enterprises that the glitching I see is the expected symptom of the BIOS issue.
Other than that all I know is what it says on the product page (http://digitalnow.com.au/product_pages/Quad.html) about "... a compatibility issue between the PLX bridge and the Northbridge used on some Gigabyte (AMD) motherboards - Gigabyte are aware of this...". Of course if someone has a proper fix for Linux in the meantime I'm more than happy to hear it! Or alternatively if someone can point me at the part of the driver code that relates to the problem I'm happy to have a go at it. |

I am trying to compile for 2.6.38-8-generic kernel in Ubuntu 11.04 but so far without success. I am using the latest v4l-dvb source and driver source from http://www.turnovfree.net/~stybla/linux/v4l-dvb/lv5tdlx/. I am seeing multiple errors in rtl2832u.c. Anyone had any success?
