Apparently there are differences (particularly GEM with sport), so oztivo have 'state-ified' 7TWO and GEM. 7mate is national.

From my perspective there is a darned good reason to use the oztivo guide data and that is it includes useful information such as program genre (sci-fi, drama etc), if its a movie or a series, if a series the episode title; season; episode number etc all in a sane machine readable form. That would be fine and good if the data from oztivo was anywhere near accurate. I'll stick with the broadcast guide, it's several orders of magnitude more useful and correct, even if certain fields are under-utilised and/or missing. Also the FTA EPG won't simply cease to exist one day when they "get sick of it" or can't afford the hosting. As for pay-TV? I can't see me paying to watch advertisements anytime soon, nor reruns of Gilligan's Island, so naught to be gained there. I'm quite surprised anyone still sees it as a viable entertainment medium, to be honest. -------------------- --- in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is a great deal of difference --- |

In my experience the OzTivo guide is at least as accurate as the OTA guide WRT programming. In my area, usually more so in that the FTA guide often doesn't mention the episode title at all and when it does its in an entirely inconsistent manner making machine use of such information impossible.
I'd rather watch pay TV than FTA. FTA is a diaster. Take WIN for instance. WIN is the most amatuerish TV broadcaster in the country. Most of the time ads chop into the programs - either starting too early or finishing too late. Not only that, the programming on in general FTA often has bits chopped out or shows edited down versions. For instance, the old tired "Bewitched" running on GO! is ~21 minutes long. The precise same episodes on pay TV are ~24 minutes. Whole scenes are missing from the FTA version. Similar happens with other older shows, but also newer programming too. Then there's the magical mystery tour scheduling of FTA where the start / end times advertised are rarely anything related to realtiy and shows hop around in the schedule without notice. Anyone that is an aficionado of a show will either obtain it via disc, download it, view it on pay TV. They certainly won't view the show on FTA. A heads up to uryan: One SD no longer exists as of today. It's now taken over by 'Eleven'.
The nitty-gritty is that LCN11 (currently ONE HD)is becoming Eleven, and LCN12 (currently ONE SD) is becoming ONE HD. Eleven is described as 'distinctly youthful' which I take to mean 'crap'. Details here |

Hi All,
Firstly, thanks to uryan for keeping the xml's updated at guides.byremote. Have been using the xml data from guides.byremote to keep the toppy EPG up to date (via perltgd). Wondering if channel 'Eleven' is going to be added into the xml files? |

Try looking back to the first page and first post of this thread and you will find your answer. I have tried the other one and it seems to work for me.

Not to worry, plenty of other sources out there. I try to avoid relying on 3rd party data and collect it myself from the data stream, even so the stations don't really fill in all the data that they are supposed to (when comparing to what is filled in in other countries!), you at least get all the right times and show info.
I am using now for quite some time "EGPScan", works even under Windows 7! Try this thread for a setup example (Sydney), which can be easily modified for your needs: http://forums.dvbowners.com/index.php?s=&a...ost&p=79434 Hope this helps, Happy recording :-) P.S. If somebody needs the data just as a gap filler until you are setup, not as a permanent solution, I might be able to give you access to my data on my computer, give me a PM. I am having the data for Sydney, (Hurstville area) Both sources are dead for me. Last showing is Thursday the 16th, SBS1, 23:45. I'd rather watch pay TV than FTA. FTA is a diaster. I know exactly what you mean, on another show, they cut off the ending, which turned the ending into something completely different than what was originally intended! |

I finally worked out how to automatically produce my own oztivo guides using the simple software at http://epgstream.net/xmltv-download/ and Windows Scheduled Tasks.
Fairly noob instructions are at that page. Notes: 1. In Windows Scheduled Tasks (for XP at least), for the task, I had to change Task Tab > Properties > Run As: to NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM (I just copied what was in the other tasks) 2. In DNTV Scheduler Pro/WebScheduler, in the data source settings - File Source TV - I entered (for a Windows XP installation) C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\epgStream.net\xmltvDownload\ (no XMLTV.xml on the end) |
