Yes I've tried them all, the PowerDVD decoder is the only one that I've ever been able to get to display the full frame rate. Also I've discovered I need to have the LAV Video Decoder selected in DVBViewer for full frame rate on all channels, so that's looking like a more likely candidate for me at the moment (if only I can work out its arcane keyboard shortcut setup!).

Sounds a lot like a graphics card issue, ie. if your gfx card supports hardware decoding of h.264 and you manage to have the right codecs and video player software that all works together then it should be fine, if not then its software decoding using the cpu.

Works fine using dvbviewer pro and an ancient tinytwin (1st edition). I set the h.264 codec manually in options too MS DTV.

Hope that helps.

Oh and I re-tuned Ch7 as well, can see Racing.com channel which also works fine too.

one last thought ... it hasn't any capture devices because it couldn't open CaptureDevices.sof ?
wouldn't hurt to spend 5 mins checking fixing file/folder protections smile.gif They did do me in once a long time ago.

Nah I used the own permissions hack on everything quite some time ago (got annoyed with the win7 default permissions setup).

So far my experience with the revert has yielded that one error - which I corrected by manually stopping and restarting service (did not use tray or menu method), reboot was not required, a cap of movie last night, and auto-epg capture this morning worked fine, all in all that is good enough at least I how how to deal with that error if it appears, just stop restart service and all is good.

At least I have some functionality, its not perfect but it will do for now. smile.gif

Just a couple of thoughts, very long shots.
- more than one service process running ?
- path not right in settings files ? (are they "restored" ?)
- (inherited) File/Folder permissions on the folders/files ? Change them to Everyone has Full Control, and see.

No because no capture devices - haven't been found yet as it hasn't scanned them yet it does later in the log, the xmltv epg file was because either the 2 scans I possibly had going or because it hasn't been created yet so there is no data yet.

No not a clean install of windows 7 x64 because I haven't done that for years because I manage my system well there has been no need - in other words, that will make no difference whatsoever, clean installs of related driver, (given since it usb problem), dntv scheduler and java, so no nothing related that could possibly affect the situation.

No it seems I am sticking with the fact of my assessment, I fail to see how an error that first appeared in 2011 in previous versions of both dntv scheduler and java reappeared after years and the only reason that it hadn't before was because of the implemented fix at the time, which was install a newer version of java which worked, now shows that it was never really fixed and was only a masked solution too the real problem with was timer thread scheduling.

Anyway, appreciate the ideas but for now i'll just stick with an older semi-functional dntv scheduler and an updated java, because with the amount of recent java exploits - better safe than sorry, yes there were around 5 or so critical exploits for java and that is why I chose to update it.

Tried v2.101 of DNTV Scheduler and guess what I found to rear its ugly head again:
--------------------------
<html><head><title>Timer Thread Error</title></head><body><h1>Timer Thread Error</h1>The main timer thread is not running, it has crash with the following error:<p><pre>StackTrace:
java.util.ConcurrentModificationException
at java.util.HashMap$HashIterator.nextEntry(Unknown Source)
at java.util.HashMap$ValueIterator.next(Unknown Source)
at GuideStore.getProgramsForChannel(GuideStore.java:1477)
at DataStore.refreshEpgInfo(DataStore.java:1870)
at TimerThread.run(TimerThread.java:814)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
</pre><p>Please post this error on the forum.</body>
----------------------------

So I guess that the problem was never really resolved, can't update java as I have the latest, can't update DNTV software as latest does not work, and there you have my testing is complete, as an end-user here I cannot fix this one, that means the software is imho faulty and needs repair which I cannot do.

The interesting thing too note was that timer thread error happened years ago and we resolved it then by updating java but it seems the error was legit and was never actually fixed, the problems evident by a failing timer thread/actual scheduling timer function in the latest version show just that.

You may say but mine works - for how long?, and under what circumstances?, both tuners/multi in use?, just a matter of time before something breaks, and it will.

Another interesting thing to note was that this was the version that I used just before updating, and no I didn't have the timer thread error then, I had that in versions before that and that was one of the reasons I updated the software and java then, for it too happen again is hardly a co-incidence, its just now we can see it, the latest version may have the same issue as well just it isn't even getting too the stage to throw that exception.

So to sum up:
Last version v2.101 (that I have anyway) doesn't work
Latest version v2120 doesn't work

Conclusion:
DNTV Scheduler needs its timing thread thoroughly tested and debugged properly to fix these issues, same error twice in different version with different version of java says problem was never fixed and stopgap 'solution' was never one anyway.

Woke up this morning and there you have it, capture fail once again on the auto epg items, where last night what worked fine this morning does not, sorry but something is wrong with that latest build and java update 45, everything is installed correctly.

All i did last night was set it up (once I got the damn thing installed), populate the epg with fresh data but changing the auto epg from the future setup, which would have been 12am on the 29th too 9:31pm last night and so on, populate the xmltv data then reset the auto epg too this morning.

None of that should cause the capture of that data this morning to fail - but yet it has and same problem.

All I can do now is revert to a previous version and hope that works, but I won't have time to do that today till I get home from work.

QUOTE (bear @ Oct 28 2013, 09:01 PM) *
hi tre30,

I have read your posts but can only offer some limited assistance. I will review your suggested feedback and identify what can be done.

As a start I can only suggest the following:

1. Don't let Microsoft update your PC automatically, they have known driver updating issues that result in devices locking up. The remedy is to shutdown the PC and remove the power cable for a while until the reservoir capacitors have drained. then restart the PC.

2. Don't let java update from their download manager, you need to use the full exe installer else you won't get all the legacy file loaded which are needed. This issue has been around for a while now.

I will respond to your feedback when I have a good look.

Dan

I only do critical Microsoft auto updates and hardly ever any driver updates, just in this cae it was both, and it was auto (you would have thought they would have learned a lesson from the last debacle - as least it installed .. this time .. heh).

I never do the java updates except my antivirus updated so I thought I haven't updated it in a while might be good to refresh it since like most people I do use java (not applets and such) when browsing the web, javascript is a subset and whether or not you need full java for that I'm unsure.

Finally I'd like to say, that thanks for the help.

I know its hard to deal with frustration, but hey you probably learned a thing or two about unexpected behavior too, last time I experienced it I couldn't describe it as well as I was dealing with network issues and application issues, try being disconnected randomly from the net and having too figure it out on your own without any apps you can download/google too search, and things start getting muddy real quick, all I had was everything I had learned plus my collections of utils and whatnot, this time I knew how, and the network was never affected like that.

I learned long ago just too never set the scheduler service too auto (a just-in-case mechanism), rather than having to go through safe mode hoops to even get functionality enough too fix it.

bleh I talk too much ... time for some tv.

Latest version install=success

Here is the settings I used, and yes I did try Run as admin mode, did not work.

Right click->create shortcut, right click properties, dropdown box -> xp sp3, at bottom of window checkbox for admin mode - select.

So now I have it installed and a cleaned java version I can test again, and if I still get the same results, then something is really wrong, though from what I have seen, something is wrong anyway, that installer package just is not compatible with win7 x64, plus the other problems related to how certain things were functioning, well you read my explanations, as confused as they were because it was demonstrating confusing behavior.

Thing is having seen how that installer can appear to work right but not copy files, it is possible that I may have been running older versions of file with a newer service, any multitude of problems, too many areas for things to go wrong, and with the end user - being me in this case, not even knowing it went wrong.

As for how it goes now ill give it the basic channel scan tests and schedule 1 min record, then setup auto channel epg scan, and if its all good tomorrow morning, then we'll know.

It has been - frustrating to say the least, and if anything I learned that this is why I don't do much tech work anymore (besides its hard to get a job in the field anyway), because ultimately its frustrating and much of the time and hours you work and extra overtime without pay (you have to figure it out to know how too do it) ends up meaning that you work more for less pay than something who does a standard laboring/trade with standard hours and defined pay.

Wish me luck, I'll let you know how it goes...

Fair enough but ,not all AV programs play nice.

Well I didn't develop DNTV Scheduler Pro, it in fact started out life as WebScheduler but programmers for DigitalNow added features to it and after an agreement with the original developer, released their own version.

I also have been using DNTV Scheduler Pro ever since it came into existence and webscheduler before that and I have never encountered the problems you are having now.

Bear looks after the development side of things but unfortunately due to real life things, he doesn't have much time to frequent this forum. You could always try a Pm to him to see if he can help, as I have no doubt he would if he could.

In the meantime all I can do is suggest things that may help as I have beta tested this software for quite some time. the other possibility is renura may also have some suggestions but I'm not sure if he is back from overseas yet.

---------
Hardest install -> ever .. lol
The only time I've even seen it copy the file was when I selected xp sp3 mode, I even made shortcuts for vista sp2 and xp sp3 - just for the install, and yes I know Bear and chatted with him before, I know I spoke with him last time m$ did the usb thing and I had a interesting problem where the scheduler was stopping my network services & or drivers from even activating as the service was starting so soon and because it was broken with the usb problem it actually killed functionality of the system, that's why I went back too the technique I used then of stopping everything and preventing anything from triggering capture (which would fail), I never thought I would encounter it again, but hey - here we are, deja vu 'n all that.

So.... reboot, admin Ill try that, then use shortcut .. and reboots/clean (sigh something something) in between.

cheers

Ok one problem fixed down, and here is how:
1. First, manually disable service from autorun, right click properties of DNTV service in services.msc, and set too manual from auto. (yes reboot to activate that if you have a problematic unstoppable service)
2. Go into control panel, administrative tools, system configuration, and disable the dntv scheduler pro application from auto starting (yes even that couldn't be killed)
3. Run the Uninstall start menu item in compatibility mode, it won't do it first time but when you run it just wait and in about 30 seconds or so a window will popup saying that it could not run the application in normal mode but it will do it the next time you run it (that should be fixed guys)
4. Rerun the Uninstall menu item, it should remove the whole thing fine then.

What a mindf'k, seriously .. lots of things could be done a lot better and plenty of information for you code monkeys to figure out where you went wrong.

So i got it uninstalled, now I will properly clean java hopefully, I will retry that then reinstall the same DNTV version (latest) and see if it works, if not I will go through same process to uninstall scheduler then revert to a previous version that works. IF that fails to solve the problem then I am all out of ideas for now.

another edit:
There seems to be a compatibility problem with win7 x64 with both the installer and uninstaller applications (both have popped up windows saying it will run in compatibility mode next time it is run), perhaps that may also be related too the capture.exe issue.

and again:
The installer can and will crash win7 x64, trying out different compatibility modes at the moment. (yes its painful, and each requires a reboot as the installer crashes win explorer)
....... . . . .
lol so each install requires a reboot, as the installer doesn't close therefore it fails, im getting closer, I have tried winxp sp2, winxp sp3, vista sp2. I think my best bet is a reboot and vista making sure everything is clean, and hoping that the compatibility mode has saved as its not copying the file while doing the testing making it even more painful. head->wall ... repeat ad-infinium.

What anti-virus program are you using? A lot of java related problems are solved by adding al DNTV related folders in the AV program to be ignored. I always add DNTV Live and DNTV Scheduler Pro to my Nortons folders to be ignored/avoided and it works fine here with the latest java but I am still using the .1.1 version of DNTV live not the latest .1.2

BTW hope you feel better soon.

cheers

I use avast!, I have used it for quite sometime with no problems, the biggest problem I have at the moment is trying to even uninstall/reinstall DNTV Scheduler, and its all related to the way it functions.

See the uninstaller for it, requires the service to be activated else it just sits there - and you can't kill the uninstall.exe in task manager either, and does nothing. However once you start the service then it auto starts capture.exe, and there you go, twice the problem.

Whoever designed this major major stuffup needs their head read, I eluded to this years ago when I had problem with the last usb ms update, I manage to find a way through it and got things working again, but this time it looks like they invested more into their auto on-start functionality with DNTV Scheduler and now they have well and trully f'd it up, BAD design, sorry - just bad.

At this point not sure what to do (and hence I said I didn't feel like it earlier - would you?)

edit:
Couple of things to note in case anybody who actually develops this program is listening (I have a Comp Sci Degree in Software Development so I should know what I'm talking about):
1. Never link your Uninstall too something that can activate application functionality (endless loop - DUH)
2. Allow applications too be killed (yes don't lock task manager from being able too kill things - it IS useful, we use it all the time)
3. Please think about how you can achieve the above 2 points while still retaining your auto on-start functionality for people who wish to have things wake-up and record/on crash then continue recording (er .. yea whatever). I don't do it and probably never will.

So... unless I can figure out a way to uninstall, without activating the service which it requires to use the uninstall.exe, perhaps I might be able to use a Uninstaller app, but if that then links back too that failure of an uninstall.exe application, then I'm pretty much stuffed, can't uninstall it, can't reinstall it, the only thing I may be able too do, is reinstall java (if that will even work - who knows at this point) and hope that may fix things.

Please I have used this Scheduler for years!!!, listen too my VERY valid constructive complaint, and do something!

Have you tried the fix suggested in this topic to see if it will help? http://forums.dvbowners.com/index.php?showtopic=12151

The card works fine, that isn't the problem, the driver works fine, that isn't the problem, I can still even use DVBViewer Pro when the capture fails, it isn't failing because the card or driver is stuffed, its either a failed installation of java or the Scheduler itself is broken with newer java and or what m$ fix they implemented too fix critical errors, my guess is java. I will try the javare and uninstall clean it up and reinstall that some time today when I can be bothered, I hate it when things don't work and because it was never your fault...

Anyway until this I can't recall a unkillable process that can actually cause system instability, when I was first troubleshooting and try too shutdown service via tray, then taskmgr, amongst other things, I caused a true win explorer crash on win7, so much I couldn't even recover it via anything, that says too me that the design of capture.exe itself has problems, it should never do that.

Anyway.... if I find out a solution I'll let you know, just not in the best of health today so I will take my time. smile.gif

tinytwin? related? http://forums.dvbowners.com/index.php?showtopic=12417
uninstalled java, reinstalled the latest ?.45? , seems to work here.

Yep that's what happened, except mine is continuing to happen, I even did a test 1 min record last night, everything worked including the install, now when I woke up this morning I am left with the same problem, I'd like to say that your theory works but in this particular case I am going to say its java related and it seems likely that the scheduling mechanism or the interface with the device is broken in some way.

When I first installed those win7 updates I did not do java, I only decided to do java when I saw the first symptom occur yesterday, and now nothing works.

I generally stick by the rule if it ain't broke don't fix it, then m$ bloody broke the lot on me.

Ok so I seem to be having problems with my Dual Twin usb tuner and Scheduler, it scans channels fine, in fact the tuner works fine, even after it has one locked capture (which I cant actually kill that process, must have some protected process lock - which is very annoying btw).

So here is how and why it started too happen, after a recent win7 m$ update (about 1 week ago) they must have included some form of USB update as it did the whole can't find usb device so I removed reinstalled driver, got it working again, it was similar to that previous update they had where when it installed they stuffed everything up, you know it would say updating stop 30%, reboot then do the rest, this time it worked fine, but now things don't work.

So here is what I did, reinstalled drivers, uninstalled and removed DNTV Scheduler - after I manually stopped the service, and I also reinstalled the latest version of java too see if that would help, yes with a manual download install.

So basically it has started doing the same thing that I reinstalled everything for - paused/halted capture with capture.exe being an un-killable process (very annoying, requires reboot).

Anyway it just doesn't work anymore, I cant even get a log for it because the process is still going and has failed, not only that because it has failed in that un-killable state you cannot use the web browser based inerface to do anything because they are all interlinked, localhost at that address is non responsive.

So whatever microsoft did and possibly java as well to address their exploits (which that update I believe was for - critical security update for serious flaws) has started a chain reaction of failing.

It's either that or this win7 system has become unstable after being stable for years (with no problems whatsoever).

If I had a log then I would at least have a place to start, but I don't.

edit:

Seems like its stuck in a permanent state of waiting too start a capture that its start date already passed, I wanted to record a show at 8:30pm on sbs, that show failed too start recording I wasn't using the device I was playing a game - which should not affect anything, it never has before.

I can use part of the wbe interface but not all of it.
Now Running:
08:20pm (95) Wonders Of The Clockwork World Starting
as you can see it is stuck waiting too start, although the start time came and passed, and now it is 11:45pm, strangely enough capture is not using any card by the look of things its just sitting there - waiting....

Anyway once again I ask for help after many years of faithful use without problems, but this one has got me stumped.

As I typed that (below the edit line above) the Scheduler log updated twice more with 2 more lines of 166 and 50 minutes, interesting, and always the same numbers too, hmmmm.

Have you installed java using the online installer? If so, I would double check that you have all the files in the jre7 folder, including the Lib sub-folder, as that online installer sometimes fails to install correctly.
I would suggest you download the off-line installer and try again.
http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=68242

I am using jre7 and DNTV Scheduler Pro installs and works fine here.

Yep that did it, I uninstalled DNTV Sched, and previous online install of Java, installed offline Java rebooted, deleted DNTV Sched directory (as it was locked for some reason I'm thinking because of the failed service - even though it wasn't running), reinstalled DNTV Scheduler, had no 'could not find Java warning' which was a good sign it auto found the right Java directory, installed fine service started - no problems.

I suggest that be the first call on all problems like this - offline must have had something the online was missing, and now that I know I will use that over online when I can.

Thanks all, have a good one. smile.gif

Yes C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe exists, otherwise I wouldn't have stated that it was the correct path, not sure what is going on there, I gave up not a huge fan of head->brickwall ouch moments, I still do have an old jre6 folder as it was installed previously, but that's not the point I'm making I guess, say you are a new user - see where I'm going.

Thanks for the reply bear and gl with it, tell renura to order some industrial strength RAID biggrin.gif

Yes that's the new Java update that is highly essential due too the recent critical exploits found.

I had a similar problem with this last time Java updated from 6 too 7, I could resolve it that time by uninstalling DNTV Scheduler - you also might want too look at the order in which it is starting, as it disables network connections in Windows 7 until it starts, the only way too actually bring that up is by manually killing the wrapper process, quite frustrating if you like me have other things that require network access, when it first happened it basically almost made the system unusable as at that time I had antivirus that needed updating so multiple services got stopped from starting including many important essential ones.

So basically the problem this time cannot be resolved, the service is in permanent starting status, I have uninstalled, deleted directory of DNTV Scheduler, nope doesn't work, pointed it too the correct java install (in this case) C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin

Nothing I seem to do is making the wrapper start the service correctly.

So in quick review -
- Test out the order of DNTV Scheduler wrapper service starts, there is definately something wrong by the fact that it prevents other services from starting, the only way I can use the network - including to write this post is by killing the wrapper process, that imho is a bug and no service should lock others from starting because it is in a permanent state of starting.
- Test DNTV Scheduler 2.1.0.1 with the newest JAva update and see if you encounter the same problems as me - if you do, then something is wrong and I currently can't find a solution to it as yet, if I do I'll post the technique, but having to hack things just to get them too work as they should means there is a bug somewhere.

Hopefully I've explained enough so you can replicate, if not, perhaps its my system but I doubt it as I've experienced this twice now.

Disregard this, seems it was just a simple connection issue, the quad shield right angle cable connector nut became loose over time and caused a non connection - no connection = no worky.

(its all good renura I still love my ole V1 tinytwin) biggrin.gif

That looks like a very old CD, we are talking about the current version of the TinyTwin remote (for Media Center) not the one bundled with the TinyTwin a few years ago.

Yea it is from a few years back, and ya I have tried various things, so I don't think it will work, thanks anyway renura.

There is no driver required for the remote, You need to install the remote utility from the CD, then select Media Center as the application to control from the remote taskbar icon (bottom right side of your window desktop).

Remote utility?, I don't know what program that is, or I'm missing something on my tinytwin cd.

the Tinytwin device has the IR receive built into it, so need nothing else.

Ok, well if that is the case which I know it is, then why does the remote not work, even the drivers provided do not display any sort of device (HID device) that is related to the tinytwin, I basically just went - windows7 x64 - remote does not work.

And you can also access the ramdisk file over the network rolleyes.gif DNTVSchedulerPro options a file share cyclic buffer that is ideal for ramdisks.

I have already done that, the major problem seems to be that the fileshare is TCP rather than UDP, the difference is that TCP requires acknowledgement and you end up getting lots of flooding while streaming, whereas UDP is designed too just pushes packets regardless - much smarter option.

As for getting the ramdisk working - well lookup PAE ramdisk (Gavotte RAMDisk - is the software ramdisk used), not sure of the exact page where I found the steps listed but it is out there.

Just installed 1.3.3 (yea I was a bit behind - but if it works why break it ... um, scratch that) and then copied over 1.3.4rc.

OS: XP Pro (latest and up-to-date)
cpu: q6600
gfx: ati 2600xt (yes I still have it and it still rocks!)

So far seems all good, I didn't clean out the reg beforehand, so it's kept all my settings from 1.3.2 (may I add no problems).

The thing I will get around too testing for you is;
12. Added share file write modes on file writer to enable live playback of recorded ts & mpg recordings with
tsfilesource filter enabled.

I'm most interested in the share file write modes, as I have been messing around with >3GB ramdisk's (yes you can make a ramdisk in that extra 1gb using PAE) and using that as a timeshift/streaming buffer.

Anyway just thought I'd post something as I'm still loving your products renura - and I'm still a most satisfied customer biggrin.gif
