I am a complete newbie so apologies if this is dumb but I dont seem to be able to access the builtin webserver of HIP. To make things simple I am doing this using the fixed internal ip address of the Win7 server that is hosting HIP, I have shutoff Windows Firewall on the machine and I have permissioned the http folder and contents for all to do anything (crazy but eliminated that as a problem I hope). I have enabled the Webserver within HIP and set the port to 1000. I have opened the Test window in HIP which says the Webserver is running (it always says it is). I have even tried hitting OK on that window which supposedly stops the Webserver though when I reopen the Test window it always says the server is running.

Despite all of this I get "problem loading page" in Firefox when I attempt to access http://192.168.1.110:1000/index.htm from my othe machines and when I reference 127.0.0.1 on the server itself. At one point I got a "You do not have permission ao access this page" on the local machine which is when I changed the file permissions.

Any idea?

How can I verify the webserver is running from outside HIP?

Regards

Okay - An update. I messed around for hours before I figured out that the webserver was only running when I had hit the Test button on HIP Preferences and left the modal dialog box that then appears open.

I still got permissioning problems with the pages in the http folder which I couldnt resolve. So I uninstalled and re-installed HIP and magically the permissions are not set so that the pages appear.

Unfortunately, as I said above, the webserver goes away when I close the Test dialog box even if I click the x to close it and do not hit OK (any reason why OK is supposed to stop the server?).

What am I doing wrong that causes this behaviour and how do I get around it? Leaving the Test dialog box open is very awkward since it is modal to the HIP configuration screen so I cannot do any work with HIP configuration with the webserver up.............

The web server should be running whenever Hip is running (it has to be minimized to the icon tray for it to work).

If that is not the case, let me know. I have not used the Web server for ages.
