Hi Nick, I've been messing with getting the EPG as you suggested with no luck until today, when I very carefully followed instructions again. Thankyou!!

You said "Make sure "When not capturing" is set as you can have issues if DV-S and the DVBGuide try to access the same tuner simultaneously" , however, I find that I have to have a Preview running or it does not work, which was what I was always finding when clicking on GetEPG.bat in the XMLTV folder.
Now that things are happening automatically, how can I force a prior preview to run for say ten minutes while the update runs, or is there a way to avoid this (as is the preferred way)?

BTW, I am using 4 tuners.

What sort of tuners are they? - sounds like DVBGuide (run from GetEPG.bat) can't initialise your tuner and running the preview initialises the tuner.

You could just set a small recording to run before the tuner update each day (but you shouldn't have to!).

Hi,
Thankyou developer(s) of DV Scheduler. I'm loving it.

An unsolved issue I think arises because I have 4 DVB-T tuners. On the Main Page > Channel preview section I have up to five mentions of the same channel (I had 4 but after re-tuning an extra one has appeared.) I guess each one comes from each tuning.
Can I simplify the cluttered appearance by removing some but keep functionality?
System => Channel Settings => delete the duplicate channels

Also, can someone explain the terms "Continuity report" and "Gap report" (on the EPG Data Report page.)
Gives you an overview of the quality of the EPG data. White is overlap and yellow is gap and detailed in the gap report.

Aso, if searching with a URL for Rotten Tomatoes, is there a way to make it less finicky? Rotten Tmatoes->http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/{title} rarely works but IMBD seems to manage well.

Hi,
I had no end of trouble getting the EPG to load for the first ever time. (It is fine now and updating as expected by the Task system.)

What I think did the trick was trying while actually having a broadcast showing and then getting the EPG. Simply having DV Scheduler running did not seem to be enough?

5/9/2011 I believed that I had correctly set up the GetEPG Task and "Edit Tasks" shows a list of updates every 2 hours. However I find that only if I manually run GetEPG.bat in C:\Program Files\DV Scheduler\data\xmltv while I have an actual broadcast showing, do the the .xml files created get updated. Is there something I'm not doing to completely automate?
Goto System => Edit Tasks => Add New Task "GetEPG" and command to run "C:\Program Files\DV Scheduler\data\xmltv\GetEPG.bat" then update task
Goto System => Data Source Settings => Pre-Load Task and add "GetEPG" and get it to run on "Scheduled Data Load"
Make sure "When not capturing" is set as you can have issues if DV-S and the DVBGuide try to access the same tuner simultaneously

I continue to enjoy this program and have not missed a single recording to date. Brace for a donation to the cause.

I concur. Search EPG returns all program titles/descriptions that contain the searched string, while Text Match returns exact matches only, when you select Exists. I guess it would be more consistent to make both default options return the same results.

Would it be possible to add an option - e.g. Contains - to the Exists/Not Exists dropdown list, and set it as default? And possibly also set Case Insensitive as default? This way, you might fill your drive with some junk, but you won't miss your favorite show.

If you use RegEx it will give you what you are looking for.

I put a RegEx example of "contains" and "does not contain" in an earlier post.

If you need any further help let me know.

H. Sorry if I haven't posted this correctly.

I've been using DVScheduler for quite a few years as my preferred method of TV recording software on my PC (using an ASUS My Cinema U3000 Mini USB stick), however I thought I'd add another USB TV stick (Kaiser Baas) but after doing so everything seemed to break. I can use the software ( Arcsoft Total Media) provided with the Kaiser to view/record TV but now DV Scheduler no longer works.

I thought it may have been the Java JRE 6 update to version 22 as this was installed the day before all this happened but this doesn't seem to be the problem as I reverted to the earlier version of Java that worked and DV Scheduler still didn't work.

I get the following error message everytime from the scheduler log for each channel scan attempted. I've also included the DVPiper log after this.

Any help to sort this out would be appreciated.

If you haven't already done so - go into System => Select Devices and remove all devices from DV-S then add the devices again. Make sure the type is set correctly.

Are all the devices DVB-T or is one of them a satellite card? It appears DV-S thinks it has a DVB-S card installed and can't lock to a frequency.

The match list text was Junior Masterchef while the program title was Junior Masterchef Finale

I was misled by the text (Junior Masterchef) in the title must exist (No Case), and as it did exist in the title, I figured it ought to have recorded.

I suppose it is partly my fault for not realising there were wildcards in this field.

Wildcards will work, so in your case (Junior Masterchef*) in the title must exist (No Case)

I add an asterisk at the end of all my simple match lists.

For more complex matches you can use regular expression. For example

TEXT : ((?i).*football.*|.*afl.*|.*rugby.*|.*nrl.*|.*footy.*) in the title must exist (RegEx)
TEXT : ((?i).*one.*|.*7two.*|.*sbs.*|.*gem.*) in the channel must NOT exist (RegEx)

In this case if any of football, afl, rugby, nrl or footy exist in the title and providing it is not on the channels mentioned it is recorded.

You can have all the files put in a single directory of the same name as your Auto-Add name by recoding to the %a\%n (%y-%m-%d %h-%M) [%c]

Hope that helps

mad.gif It's happened AGAIN!!! mad.gif

I have been happily watching Junior Masterchef since it started, with DVScheduler recording each epsiode ... except tonight's final!

Why?

Why doesn't DVScheduler use the *TEXT* as standard? Can we have this as an option?

Anyway, I'mm off to (hopefully) find some kind soul as made a torrent for it.

Can you be more specific?

What was your match list criteria and what was the actual title?

I see where you mean now. The next problem though is that there is no EPG data for the channels I want :-( Is there another way that you know of? Thanks for your help

You can use "Add New" under the Schedules tab. Select your channel and the Start and Duration or Stop etc. You can then set it to repeat as often as you wish.

However getting hold of the EPG would be a cleaner solution allowing you to name and date (and even sort).

Hope that helps.

Have just set up DV Scheduler on a Windows Vista laptop with 2 x TinyTwin usb tuners, but am having problems with the "hibernate" post processing task.
Using hibernate without "when not capturing" ticked - system hibernates as soon as a schedule finishes, even when another schedule is still running.
Using hibernate with "when not capturing" ticked - system waits until all currently running schedules finish to hibernate, but then doesn't wake for the next schedule - or more correctly, it does wake, but any unprocessed hibernates send it into hibernation again (and again, and again when I restart it - depending on how many concurrent schedules were previously running).

I previously had DV Scheduler running on a Windows XP desktop (now dead) and hibernating/waking without problem. The only changes between the desktop and the laptop are from XP to Vista and from a PCI card + TinyTwin to 2 x TinyTwin.

Anyone have any idea of what I need to correct/change to get this working. I really do not want to run the laptop 24/7.

Thanks
Jill

Have tried both 5.56 & 5.55 - currently have 5.55 installed - both did the same thing.

Hi Jill,

Have you tried setting up power options in Vista and letting it do the hibernation when idle? You would not put any standby/hibernation tasks in DV-S.

I also noticed problems with the latest version 5.56.
5.56 is unable to suspend the computer between recordings.
But 5.55 is o.k.

I reported this bug to email of programmer, but email is propably ignored, because his email box is blocked due spam.

I was having the same issue on v5.56

I went back to v5.55 and still had same problem until I rebooted - then the machine would standby/hibernate

I then upgraded to v5.56 again and the machine is going to standby/hibernate without issue.

Not sure I can point the finger at DV-S, it may be co-incidental.

Can DV Scheduler record directly to a network drive? I've tried using a UNC like \\192.168.1.1 and with a mapped drive, but both times DV Scheduler throws an error that there is no free drive space. Is it possible at all?

As DV Scheduler runs as a service it cannot use a UNC (happy to be corrected here). A post process could possibly be used to copy/move post capture

Second question - is there any way to deinterlace live TV, or would I need to move to an external app? The horizontal lines are quite noticeable.

All services are fully configurable in the util directory. Most use VLC for their output (some output directly from DVPiper but you could inject them into VLC) and it should be possible to change the relevant config to get VLC to de-interlace.

Using Firefox on local machine. I'm using channel icons and they (along with all other icons) seem to have to be retrieved at every page draw rather than caching. The icons themselves are not very large so I don't see why it takes so long for the page to form.

Any ideas appreciated.

Wishy

Same issue in IE?

Some more information would be helpful like...
Which version of FireFox?
Which set of channel icons are you using? Where did you get them from?
Basic specs of your computer? Operating System?
Which version of DV-S? Are you using HTTP or HTTPS?

Sounds strange as I have connected to DV-S over 3G without much issue.
Caching of icons is usually the responsibility of the browser hence why I'm interested in IE performance.

Any way of speeding up the screen draw within DV Scheduler? It can be painfully slow and doesn't seem to cache any of the icons so every page has to be redrawn (apparently) from scratch each time.

Wishy

What browser are you using?

Are you doing it on the local machine or across a network?

I'm having some issues with the new versuon of TV Scheduler Pro running on a Windows Home Server so I'm going to give DVSCheduler a bash.

Does anyone know of any complications when installing DVScheduler and TVSPro side-by-side? I would like to be able to switch between them while I figure out the issues and not having to uninstall/reinstall would be really handy.

I have had WS, WS-Pro and DV-S running on the same box. TVS-Pro is essentially WS-Pro so you should be fine.

DV-S and TVS-Pro will both have their own tray application so you can see when each one is recording if you're on the console.

They will happily co-exist except they do not like sharing tuners (when they both try to use it). Ensure you either allocate them different tuners or un-select the tuner from one application before allocating to another.

Back in 2006 I asked how to convert audio only TS files recorded by WS from radio channels. The reply was demux with Project X. This seems no longer a going concern, is there a more up to date way? I have done some conversions in the past (possibly using Switch) but have lost my notes on how it was done! Any thoughts?

ProjectX is still available from SourceForge, or you could use VLC or mencoder (part of mplayer) to do it with the appropriate command line switches.

ProjectX will just demux the MP2 stream, but VLC or mencoder would allow you to demux and convert the stream to MP3 (or similar) in one pass.

Hello all

I have recently added a NAS to my setup and am looking for a way to
1. Copy the just recorded file to the NAS
2. Hibernate the computer

Using tasks I am able to do 1 or 2 but not both (combining the commands in one task using && does not work - exits with "too many parameters" error). I have also tried using a batch file, but cannot use "$filename" to reference the recording just finished so get other files copying as well.

Any suggestions on how to get this to work?

Jill

ps I should also add that I love DVScheduler. biggrin.gif If I can just sort this last bit it really will be "set and forget".

When you reference $filename in a batch file it is %1

So you call the batch file as a task
CODE
"C:\utils\mybatchfile.bat" "$filename"

Within the batch file you refer to the file as %1
CODE
copy %1 "destination"

The $filename comes across as a full pathname

Is there a way I can get these mapped?

Where are you and what station data are you using? What EPG source are you using?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows of a program that can be run from a command line as a post recording task in WS to convert 1080 (new HD freeview channels) to 720 so it can be viewed on XBMC which cant handle 1080?

Thanks in advance rolleyes.gif

I assume you are talking about converting to 720 XviD/DivX? 'cause 720p MPEG-2 on an Xbox is not good in my experience as it has quite high bandwidth.

If you know your way around WSPP I can send you a 720 XviD module (using mencoder) and an appropriate job file. Personally I use HRHDTV (960 x 540) when converting 1080i to XviD which works very well on the Xbox.

In case you are interested, there are methods of on the fly conversion to MPEG-4 using VLC but I don't think that's what you are asking for.

Thanks for this prog I like it best of all the flavours of WS.

I like to record in mpg format, I found that DVS worked with VLC Version 1.0.0 RC3 but didn't work with RC4 and doesn't work with the final V1.0.0. I tried deleting and reinstalling DVS and the final V1.0.0 of VLC but it didn't work. Would something have changed in VLC?

This is a known issue with VLC 1.0.0 as it does not support "file://" (even though the help file says it does) and therefore not supported.

The compatibility with newer versions of VLC has been an issue of late with the VLC ActiveX plugin having issues since 0.9.9 and major issues with 1.0.0

Stick with older versions of VLC for now.

G'day. I've been using the byremote guides for some time now (since the loss of the previous guides), and have just noticed a recent problem (mainly because none of the auto-add programs recorded over the weekend while I was away):

'ONE' has disappeared from the channel list in WebScheduler (Channel Mapping). It has an entry, but it can't be mapped to anything sensible. I've resorted to mapping it to the regular 'Ten' entry, and have resorted to manually adding the shows I want.

I have noticed ozTIVO have changed their entry for 'ONE' from simply 'One' to 'One-NSW'. Could this be the cause?

Apart from this issue, great work. I don't think I've had any probalems with these guides before now that wasn't fixed almost before I'd noticed them.

There is no data in "ONE" in the pre-compiled ozTiVo guides.

As you note, One is now One-NSW, One-Vic etc in ozTiVo so the scrapers probably need an update - I'm sure urayn will get on to it when he can.

Fantastic piece of software!!

It works perfectly with my DViCO and Pinnacle tuners. Unfortunately I get a BSOD with Vista 32 when using any dual tuner with the Afatech chip (KWorld AFA9015, AFA9035) etc. When you select more than one show in the EPG to schedule = BSOD. I guess I wil have to use WebScheduler for thes tuners or VMC.

Richard

There were some issues with 5.31 and BSODs (edit: with some types of cards) - give 5.33 a try.

Thanks for the reply.

The problem is the card I'm trying to use. Its a DVICO dual pci card that has 2 usb tuners on board.

It doesn't seem to like VLC.

I was hoping to use something in the old utils directory that would support the cyberlink filter.

I have TV scheduler pro running at the same time as dvscheduler and it can capture using the cyberlink filter. I just prefer the way dvscheduler has developed.

(You can tell that the two systems are from the same tree. With both dvstray.exe and tray.exe running they both light up when only dvs is capturing.)

Still hoping

Cheers

DV

Under DV-S the tuners do not talk to VLC - DVPiper does. If DV-S works with other capture types, your issue points to your VLC configuration/version or the capture configuration.

Maybe try deleting all INI files in the util directory and reinstalling DV-S over the top and reinstalling VLC v0.8.6i.

(When WebScheduler went closed source, DV-S was developed on the last open source version of WS, v4.0.14 hence the similarities.)

For a variety of reasons I've not been very successful using vlc and ffmpeg, so I would like to return to thmpgmux.ax because it works.

My preference for a recording in .mpg format is only because my mvix network media player can't play dvr-ms files. Dash it and bother!

DV Scheduler uses (by default) DVPiper which has not been designed to work with Cyberlink mpeg file writer.

I am surprised you are having issues with VLC (not so with ffmpeg). I suggest making sure you are running the correct version of VLC and your util\ini files are as per the last install 5.29.
