Hi guys,

It's been quite a while now I'm using DigitalWatch and I must say I'm pretty happy with it. The only thing l've aways missed was a Scheduler that would be integrated inside DigitalWatch and would be displayed let's say by pressing the S key, something simple to install and to use... Also, as I'm pretty lazy, having to get up every time I wanted to turn up or down the volume really started to bug me

So if you're a bit like me (or a lot smile.gif) and were expecting that extra bit to DigitalWatch then don't look any further, it's here right now, it DigiWatch Saver aka DigitalWatch Sandwich tongue.gif

You can find the history of DWS versions here.

The latest version can be downloaded from the download section of DigiWatch Saver website or from the attachements below.

DWS V1.0.13.0: DWS_11_04_2006.zip

DWS Source V1.0.13.0: unavailable for now

Versions 1.0.5.0 and above have been successfully tested with versions 0.701, 0.724, 0.725 and experimental 0.726 of DigitalWatch.

DigiWatch Saver is totaly free of charge and open source so don't hesitate to use and abuse wink.gif

Any questions, comments, bug report, other... are more than welcome so please don't hesitate to reply...

I'll keep posting here and on DWS website any updated version of DigiWatch Saver so stay tuned...

Cheers

ToF

>>Also, as I'm pretty lazy, having to get up every time I wanted to turn up or >>down the volume really started to bug me

I got around this by setting up my channels.ini with each Program being in it's own Channel. So, I have Ch: ABCHD containing only Prg: ABCHD. Ch: ABCSD contians Prg: ABCSD, and so on.

Then I rewrote the keys.ini to use the volume controls in the normal way, and the channel buttons to change Channel. Since there is only one Program in each Channel, I don't need the Prog up and down controls and can use them to drive the volume.

It also means I can select any channel using the numeric keys. I have ABCHD, ABCSD, 7HD, 7SD,... Ten in total to match the ten number keys! If I add others, they go after the 10th, and I can access them using the Channel up and down keys.

Hope this is useful.

Regards
Gordon

Hey Gordon,

Actually you don't even have to go into all this trouble, by default you can select the network using the numeric keys on your remote and then switch between channels in a network using the CH+ and CH- from your remote (you need to reassigned those in the key.ini first) leaving you the Vol- and Vol + to adjust the volume.

The reason I've implimented a Volume control in DigiWatch Saver is because with DigitalWatch I couldn't chose wich audio entry is controled and setting the Volume control to maximum was not really an option here. Now I can adjust either the global volume or wave volume which in my opinion was better

Cheers

Hadn't thought of that! I'll probably stay with what Ive got though as I don't really see much advantage to the grouping by Channel. I guess if I wanted to assign settings to Channels rather than Programs, it's more painful with my setup.

Other things I've added that others might be interested in are. A permanent clock display in the top corner of the screen. Bitmaps to show the zoom mode when switching. Detailed NAN info showing Time, Length, Name and Desciption of the next 10 shows(If only all the channels would give us accurate NANs!).

If anyone is interested in any of these, let me know and I'll post my INI's.

Well the advantage i see is that you have to rember less numbers, I only use 4 here biggrin.gif The less to remember the better! 3 Networks than one SD and one HD for each network...

Hi Guys,

I've been using DWS a lot since the last release and found a few more bugs sad.gif

I've been working the past couple of days to fix them and also add one new feature to DWS.

If you want to find more about these bugs, please visit the history page on DigiWatch Saver's website.

The new version is not yet availlable as I'd like to test it a bit more before releasing it. It should be availlable tomorrow or the day after so don't forget to come back and check here or to check the download page on DigiWatch Saver's website

Cheers

PS: If someone did try DWS with a version of Digital Watch other than the 0.701 (the BDA for example), I'd be interrested in hearing from it...

Tried it with .725, found that the dws process went 100% cpu and had to terminate it. This can easily be reproduced, no need for a tuner card, just install DW.725 on any machine, then add DWS and run it.

Hey Calvi,

Thanks for the feed back.

When you start DWS it starts DigitalWatch and expect it to start correctly. If not, you have a fail safe that frees DWS from an infinit loop (100% CPU). It takes normaly 30 seconds. Also DWS tries to capture overlay color from DigitalWatch but it can sometimes fail and go into another infinite loop that also have a fail after 30 seconds.

How long have you waited before killing DWS?

I'll try to just install the .725 version and see what happens here...

ok so I've tried the version .725 here and first of all was surprised that DigitalWatch is working although I don't have the BDA driver installed

Anyways. I have the same problem here as you described. I've found the source of the problem and will fix it as soon as possible. Without entering into the details, DigitalWatch .725 differs from 0.701 in the fact that the main window doesn't have the same name. As DWS was design for 0.701, it's looking for the wrong window name when used with .725 and it does it in an infinite loop. I need to check and change all the procedure that search for DigitalWatch windows and then it should be fine.

I'll keep you posted

Cheers

Hey,

Sorry for the delay to fix the issue described above but I've been on holidays for a few days.

I could finally find some time to modify and test DWS so it could be used with the version .725 and also added a new feature to DWS. The new version now includes an option to shutdown windows after the last scheduled recording for the day.
The shutdown can also be forced to prevent windows from getting stucked on a dialog box needing an user intervention. Please use this option with caution as it may result in lost of data or files that have not been saved prior to the forced shutdown. (ie if you edit a doc in word for exemple and don't save it before the forced shutdown, word will not ask for a confirmation whether or not it should save the file and will close straight away discarding the changes you made to that doc).

I think the new version should also work with the experimental version .726 but could not try it here as I don't have the BDA driver installed. It would be great if someone could try and let me know how it goes.

As usual, the new version and its source code can be downloaded directly from the Downloads section of DWS Web site.

To simplify the attachement of the DWS exe file and its source, from now on the more recent files will only be attached to the firt message I posted. you can used the following snapback to go to this post *

Hi,

Have you thought about adding a dialog so that can you stop the shutdown with a countdown timer?

I use a prog called "psshutdown" with WebScheduler as a post capture task in case I'm using the PC when it's finished capturing. So I guess it would be possible to put something like that in your program.

Thanks,

dRdoS7.

Hey dRdoS7,

thanks for your suggestion

Yep I thought about it. It was actually after DWS exited windows while i was doing something. I forgot to uncheck the shutdown option sad.gif

I'll add this box as well as an option to chose between shutdown, poweroff, hibernate,...

I'll probably release a new version by the end of the week

Hi,

Following dRdoS7 suggestion, here is a new version including an autoclose confirmation box when DWS closes windows. I've also added an option to chose which "type of shutdown" to perform. This includes logoff, poweroff, shutdown, suspend and hibernate.

Any other suggestion are welcome and I'll do my best to include them in any forthcoming version...

Hi,

I found a few more bugs and fixed them. I've also added some quite useful new features (well at least for me smile.gif)

Briefly, I fixed some behavioural bugs mainly related to DW window encapsulation, fixed and improved the volume management, added a no reboot before option, changed the file name used for scheduled recordings, fixed some issue with the shutdown process,...

All the detail concerning the modification done can be found on DigiWatch Saver's website.

As usual, the new version and its source code can be downloaded directly from the Downloads section of DWS Web site.

Cheers

Hi guys,

It's been quite a while...

As I had plenty of time to use DWS, I found a few bugs and mostly a few things that could be improved. I've been working on all that this week-end and came out with a new release with new features and some bug fixes.

A full report of all the additions and other modifications can be found on DWS history page.

The major additions/bug fixes are:
- A Power management routine to make DigitalWatch compatible with stand by and hibernation
- Options to start a certain amount of time before the scheduled time and stop after the scheduled time
- The recording timer has been changed to prevent scheduled recordings from not stopping when they should
- Some modification on the tray icon component
- Some visual modifications.

The latest version and its source can be downloaded on DWS website in the Download section.

Enjoy this new version and as usual don't hesitate to let me know if you find any bugs or would like to see some new features added

Cheers
